These micro-courses also provide excellent professional development and “upskilling” opportunities for those currently working in patient and client care roles.
The mission of Medix College is to provide practical training and quality education that aligns with the needs of employers and the communities we serve. We aim to make career opportunities and advancement in the healthcare sector a possibility by offering students flexible and accessible training.
Medix College Vice President, Peter Dykstra states that, “through a grant provided by the Ontario Micro-credential Challenge Fund program, Medix College partnered with Nevvon to develop this series of micro-credential courses to meet the dire need for personal care assistants/aides in long-term care and home healthcare throughout Ontario.” Dykstra also notes that, “moving forward, we are working to develop seamless pathways for students across Ontario successfully completing these micro-courses to continue their educational journey to becoming personal support workers, through our leading-edge Personal Support Worker Online with bootcamp and Hybrid program offerings.”
Nevvon is an industry leader in developing engaging and interactive mobile learning that provides the accessibility and flexibility that healthcare organizations and students today need. Nevvon CEO, James Cohen notes that, “Medix College and Nevvon’s complementary strengths and expanding partnerships with long-term and home healthcare organizations, will allow us to make an impactful contribution in addressing the challenges these organizations face in securing and retaining the number of trained caregivers, patient care assistants/aides, and personal support workers they require. We want to thank organizations such as, IntegraCare and L’Chaim Retirement Homes for their important insights and ongoing support of this initiative.”
Some of the micro-credential courses included in the series are Communication Skills, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Medical Terminology and Anatomy Basics, Caring for Your Client: Activities for Daily Living, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and much more. These micro-courses are fully online and are accessible by mobile phone and computer 24/7, making them more flexible to fit into students’ day-to-day schedules. Upon successful completion of each micro-course, students will be awarded a certificate of completion and a digital badge that they can then highlight on their personal resumes, as well as on LinkedIn.
These micro-courses are an exciting opportunity for those interested in pursuing and building a career in health care as a Personal Care Assistant and beyond. We’re excited to continue to bring you innovative ways to learn and continue to meet the needs of our communities.
